A Type 29, also known as the Transitional Bilingual Certificate, is available for qualified individuals in Illinois. This special teaching certificate allows persons with bachelor’s degrees to teach transitional bilingual classrooms. Earning a Type 29 and teaching bilingual education helps to ameliorate the shortage of bilingual teachers in the state of Illinois.
In order to acquire the Transitional Bilingual Certificate, an individual must pass a Language Proficiency Exam. At this point a temporary Type 29 certificate will be issued. It is valid for six years of teaching.
Whether you currently hold a Type 29 and want to obtain a bilingual endorsement, are a certified teacher looking to earn a bilingual endorsement, or need to earn a certification and a bilingual endorsement, National Teachers Education Center (NTEC) has a program to meet your needs.
